To make the alarm loud enough to wake someone from sleep, its creators used a clever double-caseback system that acted as a resonating chamber. It earned the nickname ‘The President’s Watch’ after the White House Correspondents Association gifted one to Harry S. Truman, beginning a tradition of US presidents wearing the iconic chirping timepiece.
